Staffer who embezzled taxpayer funds avoids prison time

A staffer to Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) was sentenced to three years of probation for stealing nearly $7,000 from the office account, according to the Associated Press.

The executive assistant, Caroline Valdez, forged her boss's name on a $6,000 bonus check. She also used the office credit card for pizza, groceries and airline tickets.

The judge ordered her to get counseling, saying she seemed to have a problem telling the truth.

While we were being Americans, the Governing Class set out to execute a slow-motion coup. The longer they sit in State Houses and within the Beltway, the greater the depth and pervasiveness of corruption. Tomorrow, Thursday, 22 October 2009, Will Breazeale, congressional candidate for NC District 6, will sign a pledge of self-imposed term limits, and will underwrite that pledge by committing a substantial portion of his wealth in a bond. Should he default on that pledge, the bonded amount will go directly to a predesignated bone fide charity within that congressional district. The Alliance for Bonded Term Limits, Inc., a grassroots, non-profit citizens group is pleased to have assisted Will in this history-making event. We hope that his Bonded Term Limit contributes credibility to his Congressional campaign.

This is just a simple example of the pervasive nature of corruption in society today. My generation and ones before have been too busy with, what we thought, was making a better world though innovation, entrepreneurial vision, and hard work. We now find that large parts of our population have been busy scamming the system and have their fingers in “All” the cookie jars. It is my goal to wake up and start watching and changing what is happening.
