October 27, 2009 The Honorable Herb Kohl Senate Office Building United States Senate Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator: I don’t live in your district, but I’ve been writing and calling Washington politicians to help pass HEALTH CARE REFORM – & a ROBUST PUBLIC OPTION. Opt-out is possible, but “OPT-IN” or a “TRIGGER” is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Bi-partisanship is nice, but with Republicans – the “party of NFW” – it’s a waste of time. Senator Olympia Snowe alone is NOT Bi-partisanship. I am now contacting all ‘moderate Democrats’ in the hopes of pointing out how very important it is that you work with the Democratic Party you belong to. With bi-partisanship a non-issue, it is more critical than ever for the majority party – DEMOCRATS – to WORK TOGETHER FOR HEALTH CARE. America’s voice was obvious in 2008. Is “Conserva-Dem” another word for “Republican”? Latest polls show a slight majority of Americans support a specific public option, but when stated as “quite” or “extremely” important to have a public vs. private insurance option, that majority jumps to a staggering 72% THAT SUPPORT A VERSION OF A PUBLIC OPTION. This shouldn’t even be a discussion right now – and CERTAINLY not when limited to Democrats. Listen to America! As I have noted in every other e-mail I’ve sent and phone call I’ve made, health care reform – the #1 issue in America right now – basically breaks down into two parts: • You either support RADICAL REFORM OF HEALTH CARE, including a ROBUST PUBLIC OPTION at the very least (and, ideally, a single-payer system), OR • You support the unconscionable profits of the health insurance & prescription medicine industries. HEALTH CARE REFORM WILL NOT PUT INSURERS OUT OF BUSINESS. It will only limit their OUTRAGEOUS PROFITS – a 428% increase over the last 10 years. It’s BIG MONEY vs. AVERAGE AMERICA – Haves vs. Have-Nots – Democrats vs. Republicans. It’s that simple, Senator. Please step above you
