Established in August 2007 at Florida International University (FIU) Applied Research Center (ARC), the western Hemisphere Security Analysis Center (WHEMSAC) in a network of Latin American Security experts from academia, business, government ministries and privet organizations.
The Center provides a unique approach to regional security analysis through the fusion of open-source, political, economic, and social expertise with traditional intra-government analysis. The Center provide leaders with an innovative, unique, real-time analysis group of regional experts and in-depth “reach back” capability from hemispheric leaders in government, academia, and privet sectors.
In addition to FIU’s recognized Colleges, Center’s and Institutes, the network is composed of University partners throughout the U.S. and the Americas. The WHEMSAC focus is on analysis of political, social, and economic forces that affect regional security, stability, and multi-lateral relationships in the Caribbean and the Americas. Additionally, WHEMSAC provides forums where national decision makers and policy makers can exchange ideas, explore pressing issues, and achieve greater understanding of multi-disciplinary challenges shaping the hemisphere’s security environment.
