Senior Hill attorney leaves for troubled software company

Posted by John Sugden on June 20, 2014

A senior Hill attorney has left Congress to join a Northern Virginia software company reeling from a scandal.

Sam Ramer, most recently senior majority counsel for the House Judiciary Committee, has joined Symplicity Corporation as general counsel and vice president of government relations.

Symplicity made headlines last month upon CEO Ariel Friedler's admission that he hacked competitors' systems. Friedel announced in a letter to customers that he and CTO Alok Dhir would both plead guilty to federal computer fraud charges. Symplicity primarily sells education software, but also holds government contracts.

In this letter, Friedler also announced Ramer's hiring and that of new CEO Bill Gerety.

Ramer, an assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia for more than 5 years, joined House Judiciary in 2011.
