House counsel cashes in with Bankers

Posted by Nate Hoffman on June 25, 2015

A former Hill staffer has taken a job with the American Bankers Association a year after leaving the Capitol.

Andy Guggenheim, who was most recently a counsel for the House Small Business under Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), has joined the ABA as a senior counsel. The Washington, D.C.-based trade association has lobbied Congress on reforming the Dodd-Frank Act, a bill that Guggenheim's former boss voted against. The ABA has been strongly opposed to the newly created banking regulations.

Guggenheim started his public service career as a legislative aide in Sen. George Allen's (R-Va.) office. He was promoted to legislative assistant before moving over to the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2007 as their assistant director. The New Jersey native returned to Congress after stints with the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

He has a BS in communications and political science from Northeastern University and a JD from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
