Sen. Perdue doesn't look far for new staff hire

Posted by LegiStorm on Nov. 13, 2015

Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) didn't have to look far for his latest staffer, turning to the niece of his more senior Senate colleague, Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.).

Isabelle Isakson, who has a bachelor's degree in child and family development from the University of Georgia and taught elementary school, has come on board as a deputy scheduler.

"Given her interest in scheduling and her knowledge of the state of Georgia, [Isabelle] stood out among several candidates interviews for the deputy scheduling position, and she was ultimately selected as the best fit for our team," wrote Perdue's communications director, Megan Whittemore, in an email to LegiStorm.

Whittemore said Isakson played no role during the hiring process. As chair of the Senate Ethics Committee, Isakson oversees application of Senate ethics rules, which prohibit all Senate employees from helping get family members on the federal payroll.
