New aide for Texas Democrat brings diverse government relations experience

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Jan. 7, 2016

New hires to Capitol Hill are often considered experienced if they bring prior congressional, administrative, lobbying or state legislative history to their jobs. A new legislative aide for Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) has all those bases covered.

Thaddeus Woody, a former Hill staffer and registered lobbyist, has come back through the revolving door as a legislative aide for the Dallas/Fort Worth-area congressman. After a two-year hiatus from the Capitol, Woody is handling energy, environment, science and other related issues as part of his portfolio. As the government relations coordinator for Washington, D.C.-based Kent and O'Connor Inc., he registered to lobby on behalf of the National Association of Fleet Administrators on fuel quality standards and energy policy issues.

After his K Street gig, Woody spent the last five months of 2015 working as a special assistant in the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. His new boss currently sits on the House Science, Space and Technology's Energy Subcommittee.

Previously, the Lockhart, Texas native also worked for Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) for more than three years as an intern, systems administrator and a digital communications specialist. Woody also worked for the National Association of Attorneys General, Texas State Sen. Carlos Uresti (D) and interned for Texas State Rep. Jim McReynolds (D) and the Austin City Council. He earned his BA in government from the University of Texas at Austin.
