Wood industry group harvests a Cochran staffer for Washington office

Posted by LegiStorm on Jan. 8, 2016

An aide to Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) has grown into a new advocacy job off the Hill with a wood products industry group.

A research assistant in Cochran's month until last month, Whitten has joined the American Wood Council as senior coordinator, public policy, advocacy and communications. She is also serving as the assistant treasurer of the Council's political action committee.

The timber industry is key to Cochran's state. It is the second-leading employer of manufacturing workers in the state, with forests blanketing nearly half the state.

Whitten had only been with Cochran since August. Before that, she was a legislative assistant with Witt O'Brien's LLC, where she registered to lobby for the Association for Financial Professionals. She also previously worked for former Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas).
