Rep. Luetkemeyer chief finds new home at HUD

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on July 27, 2017

Ben Carson's Department of Housing and Urban Development has picked up Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer's (R-Mo.) longtime chief of staff as a top liaison to Congress.

Seth Appleton, now HUD's general deputy assistant secretary for congressional and intergovernmental affairs, had served as Leutkemeyer's chief of staff since 2009. The congressman, who last year passed the first comprehensive reform to low-income housing since the 1990s, was once floated as a possible choice to lead the department.

The Senate Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies yesterday recommended increasing the department's 2018 funding to $40.2 billion — $1.9 billion more than HUD received in 2017 and $8.8 billion more than the White House's request for the department.
