Rep. Green's aides come and go through the revolving door

Posted by Katie Barrows on Nov. 6, 2013

Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) hired a lobbyist to work on legislative issues just as he was losing his legislative director for a government affairs job.

Lindsay Mosshart Westfield, Green's most recent legislative director, joined Direct Energy Marketing Ltd. this month as senior manager of federal government and regulatory affairs. The Houston-based energy retailer provides natural gas, electricity and other forms of energy to more than 6 million residents in North America. Direct Energy has been a lobbying client of Ogilvy Government Relations. This is Westfield's first postion off the Hill, having been with Green's office since graduating from college in 2005.

Unlike Westfield, Green's new energy and environment legislative assitant has come to the Hill after a lengthy career in the private sector. Justin Ackley has been a registered lobbyist for both Brown and Co. Inc. and Bracewell and Giulianai LLP. As vice president of Brown and Co., Ackley lobbied for clients such as GE Power Conversion and General Atomics. Ackley's most recent position in the lobbying world was that of director of government affairs for Bracewell and Giuliani, where he similarly lobbied on energy and natural resource issues.
