Ways and Means Republican gets extra coverage with insurer

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Nov. 15, 2013

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.) has gained some extra insurance on the House Ways and Means Committee by hiring a new legislative director.

Before heading up the Minnesotan's legislative team, Mike Stober was most recently the deputy director of public policy for MetLife Inc. and before that the senior public policy specialist for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld LLP. Though both employers actively lobby Congress, Stober personally did not file lobbying papers during his tenure.

The Duke University graduate began his political career as a staff assistant with the Republican National Committee before becoming a legislative assistant for Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.), a former member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Eventually, he moved on to the full committee, working under Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) as a legislative assistant and economic and media analyst.
