Democrat education aide teaches trade association a lesson

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Jan. 10, 2014

A former education legislative assistant for Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) is seeing if he can make the grade in the lobbying world.

Peter Gordon has taken his legislative knowledge to the National Association of College Stores. As the NASC's government relations specialist, the Williams College-graduate is assisting the trade association with representing the college retail industry. The Oberlin, Ohio-based organization has lobbied Congress on various issues, including those related to tax fairness, credit card fees and funding for student financial aid and Pell Grants.

Gordon brings more than four years of congressional experience to his new position. Starting off as a staff assistant for Rep. Roland Wallace Burris (D-Ill.), he moved to Lynch's office within the year. While there, he worked his way up from staff assistant to legislative correspondent before eventually being promoted to legislative assistant. Gordon's legislative portfolio included education, judiciary, postal service and campaign and election reform issues.
