GOP tax aide returns to financial giant

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Feb. 27, 2014

Rep. Tim Griffin's (R-Ark.) top tax adviser is returning to the private sector after a three-year absence.

Scott McCandless, who has served as Griffin's tax counsel for the past year, will be rejoining PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC's Washington National Tax Services staff next month. This job change will mark the second time that the tax expert is bringing his financial knowledge to PwC. In 1999, he was hired as the firm's manager for its worldtrade management services practice. After two years, McCandless was promoted to director of legislative and regulatory services, a position in which he lobbied for clients such as Bose Corp. and Liberty Mutual Group Inc. for the next decade.

In addition to working for the representative from Arkansas, McCandless served as a tax counsel for the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee under Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) in 2011-2013. He earned his BA in international studies from the University of Richmond and his JD from the Emory University School of Law.
