Energy industry flack makes a return to the Hill

Posted by Nate Hoffman on March 10, 2014

A spokesman for a free-market energy think tank has come back to the Hill today to be Rep. Aaron Schock's (R-Ill.) new senior adviser for policy and communications.

Benjamin Cole recently served as the communications director for the Institute for Energy Research and its advocacy wing, the American Energy Alliance. Among other things, he helped the non profit bolster Republicans in opposing tax credits for renewable energy companies. Before coming to the capital, the Baylor University graduate wrote articles for the Dallas Morning News, the Forth Worth Star Telegram and some religious-based publications as a guest columnist.

The last time Cole worked for Congress he served under Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He was initially a deputy press secretary but within a year was quickly promoted to be a policy adviser and investigative analyst.
