Former representative opens lobbying flood gates

Posted by Nate Hoffman on March 12, 2014

A Republican representative has filed lobbying papers for the first time since leaving Capitol Hill a year ago.

Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.), who served as Montana's lone representative from 2000 to 2013, is lobbying his former colleagues on issues related to the Biggert-Waters flood insurance reform legislation as a co-chairman of Mercury/Clark and Weinstock. The Washington, D.C. firm is monitoring flood insurance reform legislation on behalf of the Kalispell, Mont.-based Torrent Technologies Inc. in order to be better prepared for flood insurance policies and claims. Last week, H.R. 330, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2013, passed the House and was placed on the Senate's legislative calendar.

Rehberg began his political career as a Montana state legislator from 1984-1991 before becoming the lieutenant governor. He unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 1996 and in 2012, losing to former Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), respectively. Rehberg has been the co-chairman at Mercury/Clark and Weinstock since March 2013.
