Watching cars slam into a semi at 35 miles per hour. Zipping around a race track in futuristic vehicles. Just another day in the life for some staffers.

Kim Jaworski, who works for Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), was one staffer who traveled to Ruckersville, Va. last week to take part in a briefing on highway safety research at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Vehicle Research Center. During the one-day event, staffers toured the non-profit's research center, witnessed a live demonstration of a passenger vehicle making a head-on collision to the rear of a semitrailer and tested cars with the newest crash-avoidance technology.

Jaworski was the first aide to disclose the trip which included over 100 staff invitees, according to the trip disclosure. At the end of the day, staffers rode back to Washington from the safety of a coach bus.
