Rep. Wittman's chief defending military contractor

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Jan. 21, 2014

A Virginia Republican's chief of staff has left to lend congressional expertise to one of the largest U.S. military contractors.

Mary Nunnally Springer, who has served as Rep. Rob Wittman's (R-Va.) chief of staff for the past six years, has joined DRS Technologies Inc. as their director of legislative affairs. The Parsippany, N.J.-based company has manufactured communications, combat and intelligence products for the Pentagon since the Cold War. Last month, for example, DRS Technologies was awarded a five-year contract to improve repair station consoles on Arleigh Burke-class missile destroyers as part of modernization efforts.

Springer, a veteran Hill staffer, enlisted first with Wittman and then Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R-Va.) as their legislative director. The U.S. Naval War College alumna also was a special assistant and a legislative assistant for Rep. John Duncan (R-Tenn.) from 1999-2003. Wittman currently chairs the House Armed Services Committee's Readiness Subcommittee.
