The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received the following message from the Secretary of the Senate on October 24, 2007, at 7:49 p.m. concerning appointments of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom and the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance.

The House received a message from the Senate. The Senate passed H.R. 1808 and H.R. 2779.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - The Chair designated Mrs. Miller of MI to lead the Members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

POSTPONED PROCEEDINGS - The Chair announced that he had examined the Journal of the last day's proceedings and had approved it. Mr. Hulshof demanded that the question be put on agreeing to the Speaker's approval of the Journal and by voice vote, the Chair announced that the ayes had prevailed. Mr. Hulshof objected to the voice vote based upon the absence of a quorum and pursuant to the rule, the Chair announced that further proceedings on the question of agreeing to the Speaker's approval of the Journal would be postponed until later in the legislative day.
