The Speaker laid before the House a message from the President transmitting a notification stating that the national emergency declared with respect to the Government of Cuba's destruction of two unarmed U.S.-registered civilian aircraft is to continue in effect beyond the anniversary date - referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs and ordered to be printed (H. Doc. 111-9).
The Speaker laid before the House a message from the President transmitting a notification in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act - referred to the Committee on Natural Resources.
The House resumed with special order speeches.
PERMANENT SELECT COMMITTEE ON INTELLIGENCE - Pursuant to clause 11 of Rule 10, clause 11 of Rule 1, and the order of the House of January 6, 2009, the Speaker appointed Mr. Rogers, Michigan.
SPECIAL ORDER SPEECHES - The House has concluded all anticipated legislative business and has proceeded to Special Order speeches.
Mr. Wolf requested the following general leaves to address the House on January 22: Mr. Poe of TX for 5 min, Mr. Jones for 5 min, and Mr. Burton of IN for 5 min.
Mr. Wolf requested that Mr. Burton of IN be allowed to address the House for 5 minutes on January 21.
The Speaker laid before the House a message from the President transmitting a notification stating that the emergency declared with respect to foreign terrorists who threaten to disrupt the Middle East peace process is to continue in effect beyond January 23, 2009. - referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs and ordered to be printed (H. Doc. 111-8).
The Speaker laid before the House a message from the President transmitting the National Drug Control Strategy for 2009 - referred to the Committees on Armed Services, Education and Labor, Energy and Commerce, Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Judiciary, Natural Resources, Oversight and Government Reform, and Small Business, Transportation an d Infrastructure, Veterans' Affairs, and Ways and Means and ordered to be printed (H. Doc. 111-7).
