DEBATE - The House proceeded with 10 minutes of debate on the Brownley (CA) motion to recommit with instructions to report the same back to the House forthwith with an amendment to protect homeowners from the devastating effects of wildfires by authorizing such sums as necessary for the Secretary for wildfire suppression, personnel, and equipment. The Motion would also create jobs and support small businesses by: (1) increasing water, waste disposal, and wastewater facility grants by $10 million per year (up from $30 million to $40 million) and extending the program for 5 years; and (2) increasing rural business opportunity grants by $5 million per year (up from $15 million to $20 million) and extending the program for 5 years. Lastly, the Motion would restore the $8 million cut (funding the program at $35 million instead of $27 million in the base bill) to the emergency and imminent community water assistance
