LegiStorm continuously deploys enhancements to optimize our site and improve user experiences. Today we rolled out a major upgrade to our user and subscription access model.
Keen-eyed customers may notice a number of small improvements in the display of menus, graphs and pages across the site, but access to and use of our content and features should not be affected. The most significant changes in this update occurred behind the scenes, with major improvements to our user and subscription management systems that will allow us greater flexibilty in providing technical assistance to users, meeting special subscriber requests and launching new data products in the coming year.
Although problems are not anticipated, subscribers who notice they do not have access to features they expect to have should contact us.
LegiStorm has processed and published the latest data on staff salaries and official expenditures for members, committees, leadership and administrative offices of the House of Representatives. This data, which was released on Tuesday by the Clerk of the House, covers the period from April 1 to June 30. LegiStorm staff extensively clean and edit salary and expenditure records before making the information available online in our searchable salary database and expenditure reporting tools.
The next release of salaries is expected in late November, including data from both the House (which releases data quarterly) and the Senate (which releases data semi-annually).
LegiStorm added the newly released first-quarter data to our enhanced expenses reporting tool, allowing quick analysis of official expenditures by members of the House of Representatives. The Expense Summaries page lets you analyze summary data related to member representational allowance budgets and spending by member, party, state, year and spending category. LegiStorm subscribers can drill down to see a particular member's expenditure trends across time, and in comparison to the House average. For more information about the enhanced expense data, please see About Expenses.
LegiStorm released a powerful new tool to Create a Custom Member List. Subscribers can now easily create specifically targeted lists of current senators and representatives based on geography, education, committee or caucus membership, political party, or any combination of these criteria.
Saved member lists can be used to quickly perform targeted searches and set Lightning alerts throughout the site. For example:
- In the Advanced Staff Search, select your custom list in the additional options menu to find staff covering particular roles or issues for these members. Set a Lightning Alert for this targeted staff list to get daily updates of staff changes.
- In StormFeed, select your custom list when you search to see the latest press releases and tweets from your saved members. Set a Lightning Alert to get notified instantly when a member from your list mentions a key word or search phrase.
- In Hearings or Town Halls (Pro Premium subscribers only), select your custom list in the search form, then set a Lightning Alert to get notifications of upcoming events that are most relevant to you.
The Create a Member List page is the newest addition to our Find a Member tools, which allow users to browse members of Congress by state, name and district maps. As always, subscribers can view and manage all of their saved lists under the appropriate tab of the contact lists section of their profile. To learn more, see our page About Member, Staff and State Legislator Lists.
LegiStorm added a few tools to help Pro Premium subscribers to stay up to date on new Town Halls.
Subscribers will see a new "Updated Since" search filter, allowing you to view only events that were added or updated after a particular day, as well as a new option to sort Town Hall search results by "Last updated" date. We also modified the export file format to include this information: when you download town hall search results, the CSV will now contain columns with a town hall ID, as well as the last updated date.
LegiStorm has processed and published the latest congressional salary and expenditure records released on Wednesday by the Clerk of the House. This update includes the fourth-quarter staff salary records and data on members' official expenditures.
LegiStorm's content team extensively cleaned and edited the data to ensure subscribers can see a complete and accurate salary history for individual staffers, as well as each member, leadership, committee and administrative office. The next release of House and Senate salaries is expected in late May.
