Organization's Own Description:
The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority is a catalyst for job growth, economic vitality and vibrant waterfronts. As an entrepreneurial business enterprise and a public agency committed to civic improvements, we focus on three key areas to enhance our region:
We operate the Port of Cleveland, a leading international gateway for waterborne trade on the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway System. Our prime location and efficient, cost-effective services result in a competitive advantage for regional companies competing globally. Nearly 18,000 jobs and $1.8 billion in annual economic activity are tied to the roughly 13 million tons of cargo that move through Cleveland Harbor’s Port-and-River system on average each year.
Our Development Finance Group provides customized solutions that help Ohio enterprises expand and invest in new facilities. Since 1993 when the Port provided key financing to build the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, we have provided nearly $2 billion to dozens of companies, local governments and nonprofits mainly for construction and expansion projects. These projects have changed the landscape of our region.
The Port is also leading critical environmental projects to renew and enhance the Cuyahoga River ship channel and Lake Erie’s downtown shoreline, assets that are central to community aspirations for a revitalized Cleveland. On the River we have launched a series of innovative and sustainable projects to safeguard the ship channel for maritime, commercial and recreational activities, and set the stage for new waterfront developments. On Lake Erie we manage a unique nature preserve that is both a wildlife refuge on the shoreline and an outdoor classroom just minutes from downtown Cleveland.
