The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries.     Rep. Jerry McNerney's (D-Calif.) newest hire is a former professional cheerleader and reality TV star.Jalina Porter started her congressional gig this month as a press and staff assistant. Prior to joining the Californian's staff, she was dancing for the local NBA team a mile away from the Capitol. She was a Washington Wizards Girl for the past two years, where she cheered on the team as it made it past the first round of the NBA playoffs two years in a row. Before moving to the East Coast, Porter was a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders during the 2012 NFL season. read more
