Johnson picks up former environmental lobbyist as new LD

Posted by Steve Shapiro on Nov. 17, 2015

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is looking to clean things up with his new hire for legislative director.

The congressman brought Arya Hariharan on board this month from environmental advocacy firm, Earthjustice, where she worked as associate legislative counsel since June. She will also be serving as senior legislative counsel for Johnson.

Hariharan graduated from William and Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 2012 and was the executive editor of the Environmental Law and Policy Review there.

Since receiving her law degree, she has worked as a fellow for D.C.-based public policy firm Civic Enterprises and the American Association for Justice. Hariharan joined the latter in 2013 and lobbied for them on a variety of consumer and safety issues until moving to Earthjustice.

Johnson lists the environment as a key issue and touts his "green voting record" on his congressional website.
