Revolving door opens for Becerra's new LD

Posted by J. Todd Foster on April 26, 2016

A former AARP lobbyist and regulatory manager for three health insurers has returned to Capitol Hill to become legislative director for Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.).

Jasmine Rosa Vasquez's prior Hill experience includes nearly two years as economic policy adviser for Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) and as a congressional tax fellow with the House Ways and Means Committee. She earned a spot on The Hill's list of "50 Most Beautiful 2009" and was labeled "a funny wonk."

Vasquez got her JD in 2008 from DePaul University College of Law while she was working for Pascrell. She then joined the Chicago Department of Law as a law clerk in the Building and License Enforcement Division. In 2010, she joined AARP as senior legislative representative and then quickly joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida as compliance manager. She switched to Allstate Corp. for six months in 2015 as senior manager for market conduct and regulatory compliance and then joined Anthem Inc. for eight months as regulatory oversight manager.

"I don't have a passion for the politics," she told The Hill. "I get made fun of in the office for being too wrapped up on the policy."
