Congressman makes Wise choice with latest hire

Posted by Nate Hoffman on May 6, 2016

Virginia Republican Randy Forbes has brought on a familiar face with his new senior adviser.

Sarah Makin, who recently left Wise Public Affairs, has returned to her roots last month. Her Washington career began in 2006 when she joined Forbes' staff the first time as a staff assistant. She quickly climbed the ranks to legislative correspondent and grants coordinator before heading to GOP leadership offices. The Connecticut native served on both the House Republican Study Committee and the House Republican Conference under Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), then-Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) before heading to K Street.

As the vice president of Wise Public Affairs Makin lobbied the Hill on various financial and consumer protection issues. Most recently, she advocated support for reforms to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to lobbying filings.

Makin earned her BS degree in biology, chemistry and neurobiology from the University of Connecticut and has volunteered at the Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center and the Washington Humane Society in the past.
