Sen. Heitkamp grows staff roster with pesticides

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on May 24, 2017

Agriculture's Democratic golden girl has harvested her Senate office's newest legislative assistant from pesticide advocate CropLife America.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) added Jared Henderson to her Washington office this month. He had worked for CropLife America since 2014, most recently as manager of government relations. He did not register as a lobbyist for the trade group, which promotes "the responsible use of innovative, safe and environmentally sound crop protection products," according to its website.

Heitkamp, currently the ranking member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee's Commodities, Risk Management and Trade Subcommittee, was once floated as Donald Trump's possible pick for agriculture secretary.
