Railroad lobbyist backtracks to House

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Sept. 15, 2017

A railroad lobbyist has taken the fast track back to Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.), this time as his chief of staff.

Bret Manley previously worked as Denham's legislative director and as his assistant on the Transportation Committee's Railroads Subcommittee, which Denham chairs. Demham is such a train enthusiast that he has even held town halls aboard trains. Manley left Denham's office in April for a lobbying gig with the American Association of Railroads.

For the first half of 2017, the trade group disclosed more than $2.8 million in lobbying expenses, most of that was directed toward lobbying Congress on proposed EPA regulations on greenhouse-gas emissions.
