Posted by Keturah Hetrick on April 17, 2018

The legislative director to one of the House's most outspoken immigration-reform champions has taken a job with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Aaron Calkins starts as chief of USCIS's office of legislative affairs this month. He'd worked for Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) since 2011, most recently as legislative director and general counsel handling immigration issues, among others.

Labrador, a former immigration attorney, has introduced a number of recent immigration-reform bills, including one in January that would fund a Mexican border wall and end the green card lottery program. A founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, Labrador is forgoing reelection this year to run for Idaho governor.
