Native American gaming group adds Rep. Torres aide

A congressional staffer and expert on Native American issues is trying his luck at the National Indian Gaming Association.

Rudy Soto was most recently a legislative assistant to Rep. Norma Torres (D-Calif.), ranking member on the Natural Resources Committee's Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs Subcommittee.

Soto, a member of the sovereign Confederated Tribe of Grand Ronde of Oregon, joins NIGA this month as legislative director. Before going to work for Torres in 2016, Soto was a policy analyst at the National Council of Urban Indian Health and a youth engagement specialist at the National Indian Child Welfare Association.
