Town Halls FAQs
What is a "town hall"?
We define a town hall as any event in which a member of Congress makes him- or herself available to a relatively broad swath of the public where constituents have an opportunity to engage in a back-and-forth dialog with the member of Congress.
How does LegiStorm track information about town halls?LegiStorm monitors town hall announcements from many different sources, including Twitter, Facebook, member websites, constituent e-newsletters, press releases, telephone trees and other sources. We will sometimes even call an office to learn about new town halls.
How much advance notice do LegiStorm Pro subscribers receive about upcoming town halls?
Ultimately, the timing of town hall announcements is controlled by the member of Congress organizing the event. We monitor multiple electronic sources multiple times a day and update our site when we learn of them.
How do I find out about upcoming town halls?
Town Halls offers robust search and notification functionality. Type in your own keyword(s) to find all town hall announcements covering your area of interest. Search by type of town hall from the more-traditional to the technologically based cutting edge - from in-person to virtual and everything in between. Search by member, by state, by date, by chamber, by party or by committee/subcommittee. Or keep an eye on the main Town Halls page to see a list of all events happening from this moment forward, arranged by date and time, as they are added to our website.
To be notified by email, you can save your search as a Lightning Alert. Lightning Alerts can be scheduled to arrive instantly or multiple times a day.
How comprehensive are you?
We monitor every available electronic source available and When we learn of town halls that have taken place without our knowledge, we investigate to find out if some monitoring method could have discovered it.
No town hall tracker can be absolutely perfect, however. For example, telephone town halls can be conducted by robocall with no advanced public notice at all.
I have subscribed to LegiStorm Pro. Why don't I see all town halls?
Town Halls is premium functionality only available with an annual 2-5 seat (and up) subscription to LegiStorm Pro. If you have a 3-day or monthly subscription, you will not see them. Nor will you see them if your annual subscription has only 1 user.
LegiStorm provides site demos upon request. Select organizations also may qualify for a free trial. Contact us for more information.
Do you have historical town hall information?
We started collecting Aug. 1, 2013. Our intent is to record every town hall we learn about from that time on.
