For over 50 years, Panavision has been a marquee name in designing and manufacturing film and digital cameras and high precision spherical and anamorphic optics for the motion picture industry. In fact, "Filmed with Panavision Cameras and Lenses" or "Filmed in Panavision" appears at the end of most major studio feature films worldwide. Panavision has more than 25 offices around the world, with more than 1,200 employees, and is headquartered in a 160,000 square foot facility in Los Angeles where the primary research, design, engineering and manufacturing take place.
In 2004, Panavision realized that its leading edge technologies would be an excellent fit for the emerging demands of government applications. The same high standards for image quality, functionality and reliability could be applied to meeting the needs of this important new market. Panavision Federal Systems first product was a very long range zoom lens used in the ISR market to provide wide area scanning plus the ability to zoom in as much as 15km to activities of interest.
Since then we have been successful in procuring contracts for the following: the Photonics Mast Replacement for Type 18 Periscopes, a mast-mounted collimator for dockside testing and adjusting of Type 18 Systems and the Digital Periscope 360° a full, 360 degree situational awareness camera system and fusion display. In October, the Office of Naval Research awarded us a multi-million dollar contract for the Affordable Modular Panoramic Mast (AMPM) as the prime contractor.
The AMPM will improve mast reliability, affordability and greatly enhance situational awareness. We are also researching 3D capture and display technology for ISR applications. We believe our innovative technology, as well as Panavision's position as technological leader in the motion picture industry gives Panavision Federal Systems unique capabilities to address the optical, mechanical, hardware and software challenges of today's technology.
