Information
Organization's Own Description:
At work, at home, at school and in community, Milestone helps extraordinary people live ordinary lives. We are a private, nonprofit, community-based human services agency supporting the needs of individuals with behavioral health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilties in communities throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. Our philosophy of inclusion, community integration and recovery—the core notions of social services—was far ahead of its time when our agency launched in 1969, and today we continue to provide our behaviorally and intellectually challenged consumers with progressive health care solutions. Our mission is to provide quality, life-enhancing services that promote wellness and the development of human potential.
Families, children and individuals are helped through personal and confidential counseling; rehabilitation and training; information and referral services; consultation, education and prevention services; services to families with a mentally or emotionally challenged child; developmental activities programs; residential programs for the behaviorally challenged; partial hospitalization; inpatient care and much more.
Milestone distinguishes itself as an exemplary agency by virtue of its entrepreneurial approach to consumer service and organizational capacity. Our agency has developed considerable skill and flexibility in packaging and delivering new services: we draw upon a synergy between the behaviorall health and the intellectual and developmental disabilities components of our organization and use technology effectively to manage business and deliver, track and gauge the progress of therapies for our consumers. Milestone has established a niche in a very competitive marketplace by finding innovative solutions for perfecting individual care. We serve approximately 3,500 persons each year in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties.
Milestone also manages two Health Care Quality Units (HCQUs) for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare’s Office of Developmental Programs. The purpose of the HCQU is to set the standards for excellence in assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in addressing medical needs and involvement in treatment. Community Health Connections and Northwest Health Connections, headquartered in Butler and Warren Counties and serving eighteen counties in Western Pennsylvania exclusive of Allegheny and Westmoreland, are dedicated to supporting and improving the physical and behavioral healthcare services provided to citizens facing mental challenges and developmental disabilities by building healthcare service delivery capacity and competency.
