Central City Action Committee, is a non-profit youth program based in the Echo Park community, It was founded thirty-five years ago by a group of concerned local citizens who wished to contribute to the solution of youth problems in the area. It has been funded continuously since1973.
A major strength of the program is showcasing our youth at local fairs and festivals and at major clean-ups in the community. The youth work hard to assist and in any many cases are part of the planning and organization of community events. These activities serve to convince the neighborhoods that minority kids are involved in positive activities and take pride in their communities.
Funding from two sources covers these projects. Funding for the youth program comes from the City of Los Angeles Community Development Department. Other funding includes funds for our at-risk youth and our other delinqunecy prevention programs. Referrals come from local schools, police and from other juveniles in the criminal justice system.
The city of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works funds our graffiti abatement program. The program incorporates the latest in color matching equipment. We are proud of our zero tolerance areas where graffiti is removed everyday seven days a week. We have made significant improvements in helping the communities have a new sense of self-respect and pride.
