Ed Whitfield's wife is taking the term "political dog fight" to another level as the Kentucky Republican's spouse became a first-time registered lobbyist this week on behalf of the Humane Society Legislative Fund.Connie Harriman-Whitfield, a former assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks for the U.S. Department of Interior, will target four pending pieces of legislation in Congress dealing with animal welfare. Three of the bills specifically focus on the treatment of canines including the Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety Act, Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, and the Veterans Dog Training Therapy Act. Although this is Harriman-Whitfield's first foray as a registered lobbyist, she has spent years supporting animal protection. read more
