Becerra sends few staffers through revolving door

Posted by LegiStorm on Oct. 24, 2011

Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) and his staff have largely steered clear of the revolving door.

LegiStorm has found 10 revolving door links to Becerra, former staffers who have also been registered lobbyists, four of whom were listed on lobby filings in 2011. Becerra has no former registered lobbyists currently on his staff.

Becerra is one of three House Democrats on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, or "super committee." LegiStorm is profiling the revolving door ties for all of the super committee members. You can see all the profiles here

Even the current lobbyists linked to Becerra don't have strong recent ties. Francis Grab, who is a partner at Ernst and Young, was a legislative assistant for Becerra from 1997 to 1998. Arshi Siddiqui, a partner at Akin Gump, was counsel to Becerra in 1998-2001.

Two other current lobbyists - Bill Goold and Michael Torra - are linked to Becerra through his caucus memberships.  Caucus staffers are treated as shared employees and a portion of their salary is paid by multiple caucus members. Hence, these caucus staffers show up as having received salary payments from Becerra even if he was not their true employer.

Goold was an executive director of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and Torra was a legislative assistant with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
