Super committee makes for happy Campers

Posted by LegiStorm on Oct. 26, 2011

Super committee member Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) has no former lobbyists currently working in his personal office, but at least a dozen of his former staffers are currently lobbying. And Camp appears to have no problem hiring lobbyists, as six former lobbyists work under him in his capacity as the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Camp is one of three House Republicans on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, or "super committee." LegiStorm is profiling the revolving door ties for all of the super committee members over three weeks. You can see all the profiles here.

LegiStorm has identified 25 revolving door ties to Camp, including 15 former staffers who worked in Camp's personal office. Of those, 12 were listed as registered lobbyists on filings this year. Another 10 revolving door ties are from people who worked under Camp on Ways and Means, including six current committee staff who previously lobbied.

Among the current lobbyists who have previous worked for Camp are two of his former chiefs of staff, John Guzik and Behrends Foster. Guzik was Camp's chief of staff until 1999, and is currently lobbying for Franklin Partnership. Foster left Camp's office in 2001 and now works as a health lobbyist for Bluestone Strategies.
