Caught Our Eye

Newest additions to the revolving door available for Pro users

Posted by Daimon Eklund on Feb. 16, 2012

Four former congressional aides popped the question on Valentine's Day: whether to become first-time lobbyists. The answer was yes, according to their new lobbying filings.

These newest members of the revolving door were first available to LegiStorm Pro subscribers through a new feature LegiStorm introduced this week.

On the LegiStorm Pro home page, subscribers to our premium Pro product will see the most recent additions to our revolving door list of D.C. insiders who have worked on Capitol Hill and lobbied on K Street. In addition, LegiStorm will continue to highlight revolving door connections in our daily Caught Our Eye feature.

The latest revolving door additions are:

* Tony Green, a former chief of staff to Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) and Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), obviously had nerves about it. On his LinkedIn profile under his previous stint as executive director with the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, he took pains to note: "Was not lobbyist for the organization and has never lobbied." But his conscience appears to been eased by his latest good cause: he represents Safe Kids Worldwide as its director of public policy. The group's aim is "preventing unintentional childhood injury."

* Beecher Frasier, a former chief of staff to Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-Tenn.), has been a partner for more than a year at Paramount Strategies LLC but he has finally filed lobbying papers for his first lobbying client, Babcock and Wilcox Co., the engineering giant with important ties to Tennessee.

* Joe Brettell, a former communications director to Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), filed as a lobbyist. In truth, he has worked for Creative Response Concepts, also known as CRC Public Relations, since 2010, but never registered as a federal lobbyist until now. Brettell is representing Visa Inc. regarding "legislations and regulations regarding the electronic payments industry."

CRC is best known as the firm which worked for the Swift Boats Veterans for Truth when that group attacked Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) during his presidential bid.

* Finally, Mickey Ferrell is lobbying on behalf of the Denver Regional Council of Governments for his own firm, Ferrell and Killin LLC. He was a legislative assistant to Rep. Joel Hefley (R-Colo.) and before that Rep. Rick Hill (R-Mont.). He was also a deputy legislative assistant to Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.). His last gig was as federal liaison to the Colorado Department of Transportation, although he never registered as a lobbyist.
