Rep. Waters files trip sponsored by financial association 5 months late

Posted by Nate Hoffman on May 2, 2014

The ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee stayed in West Palm Beach at the expense of a private equity trade association, although her disclosure came five months after it was due.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), the most prolific traveler in the House, filed the trip sponsored by the National Association of Investment Companies in late April, but was supposed to file in November, 15 days after the trip.

The Washington-based organization inducted her into their Hall of Fame for "her views on minority asset managers and minority private equity firms [as an] important role in the sector" at the 43rd NAIC Annual Meeting and Convention last November. She and her husband, Sidney Williams, spent two days in West Palm Beach, Fla. celebrating her achievements. The award ceremony and gala dinner took place at the Breakers Palm Beach Resort while the VIP reception was held at the home of Kelly Williams, the managing director for Credit Suisse's private equity division.

The Californian Democrat has taken more privately funded trips than any other members of Congress since 2000. Her 107 trips, mostly trips in this country, have cost sponsors more than $200,000. The NAIC-sponsored trip cost $3,239, including $187 for telephone charges.
