Recently resigned Rep. Andrews lobbies after all

Posted by John Sugden on May 5, 2014

Former Rep. Rob Andrews (D-N.J.) has officially become a registered lobbyist, something he said he didn't know whether he would do after he left Congress for a law firm.

When Andrews announced he would join Philadelphia-based law firm Dilworth Paxson after serving more than two decades in the House, he said he had not yet decided whether he would file lobbying papers. But he settled the matter this past week by registering on behalf of two clients.

Andrews resigned from Congress in February amid a House Ethics Committee investigation into his use of campaign funds. He claimed his resignation was unrelated to the probe into whether he used campaign contributions to fund family trips to Los Angeles and Scotland. He maintained that he had "followed the rules and met the standards," and his decision to leave office was based on his family's needs. The resignation effectively ended the investigation as the committee's jurisdiction exists only over current members of the House.

The former congressman will employ his expertise in health care policy while lobbying on behalf of the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans. Andrews will also advocate for MERIT, a New Jersey-based international security firm.
