For staffer with ag background, it's Millers' time

Posted by John Sugden on June 11, 2014

Cue the rye and corny jokes: A legislative staffer has left the Hill to work for an association of grain millers.

Benjamin Boroughs recently became director of regulatory and technical affairs for the North American Millers' Association, which represents businesses which mill grains like wheat, corn, oats and rye.

Boroughs began his career on the Hill working for the House Agriculture Committee. He left Congress less than a year later for an internship with the Biotechnology Industry Organization, subsequently working for the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

Boroughs returned to Capitol Hill in 2012 to work as a legislative correspondent for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.). Klobuchar serves on the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Boroughs studied genetics and geography at Texas A&M University before earning a master's in international science and technology policy from George Washington University. A native of Cimarron, Kansas, Boroughs also studied plant genetics at the University of Copenhagen.
