Texas Roadhouse breaks bread with K Street

Posted by Jake Harper on Sept. 26, 2014

Lobbyists have a reputation for buying lavish steak dinners, but occasionally the steak restaurants need something from the lobbyists too. Four former congressional staffers say they are lobbying on labor issues for Texas Roadhouse.

This is the first time Texas Roadhouse has filed as a client, but other steakhouses have longer lobbying histories in the District. Bloomin' Brands, parent company to Outback Steakhouse and other chains across the U.S., has had its own lobbyists walking the halls of Congress since at least 2004. According to filings, one of the company's biggest priorities was restaurant building depreciation. And Clyde's Restaurant Group once hired Holland and Knight to lobby for a new Washington location.

Texas Roadhouse's team members come from Levick Strategic Communications: Rick Kessler, Jessica Lenard, Pete Leon and Michael Scrivner.

Disclosure forms don't yet indicate what Texas Roadhouse's specific labor beef is. Despite its name, the company is headquartered in Kentucky.
