Graves hires maritime lobbyist as legislative director

Posted by Jenna Ebersole on June 11, 2015

Rep. Garret Graves' (R-La.) new legislative director comes to the Hill with eight years of experience lobbying on maritime issues.

Ian Bennitt has registered to lobby since 2007 with the Shipbuilders Council of America Inc. and firms Ball Janik LLP and Adams and Reese LLP. He joins Graves' office this month to manage legislative issues for the congressman.

Bennitt has lobbied for several maritime and environmental groups, including the Shipbuilders Council, Bristol Bay Economic Development Corp. and the Coastal Conservation Association.

The new staffer has an MPA in maritime studies from American University's School of Public Affairs and a 2005 bachelor's in English language and literature from Skidmore College. Most recently, he lobbied on national defense and the Coast Guard, oceans policy and coastal fisheries issues. His new boss is vice chair of the Highways and Transit, Water Resources and the Environment Subcommittee.
