Former pro cheerleader has MADE it to Capitol Hill

Posted by Nate Hoffman on June 24, 2015
Rep. Jerry McNerney's (D-Calif.) newest hire is a former professional cheerleader and reality TV star.

Jalina Porter started her congressional gig this month as a press and staff assistant. Prior to joining the Californian's staff, she was dancing for the local NBA team a mile away from the Capitol. She was a Washington Wizards Girl for the past two years, where she cheered on the team as it made it past the first round of the NBA playoffs two years in a row. Before moving to the East Coast, Porter was a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders during the 2012 NFL season.

The Danville, Calif. native also passed on her expertise to one lucky teenager. On MTV's "MADE", Porter helped Mandy, a thespian high school junior, train and try out for her school's varsity cheerleading team. Though Mandy did not make the final cut, Porter was able to give her the confidence to become friends with some of the cheerleaders, which was one of Mandy's original goals.

Porter earned her BBA in marketing from Howard University and volunteered with the Peace Corps in Cambodia.
