Israeli war veteran joins House staff

Posted by Sean Myers on March 10, 2016

A veteran of the Israel Defense Forces and pro-Israel advocacy groups has come on board as a new legislative correspondent for Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.).

Brian Albert, a dual Israeli-American citizen, served in the infantry of the IDF during the 2009 campaign Operation Cast Lead, fighting against the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza.

After his tour ended, Albert returned to school and earned his master's degree in Middle Eastern history, magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University. He then began working for Israeli advocacy groups, most recently with the Zionist Organization of America, where he was a campus coordinator and the associate director of campus programs. In these roles, he helped promote political and educational events at colleges across the country about the situation in Israel.

Albert will serve DeSantis, who sits on the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and has a history of introducing pro-Israel legislation, including the Palestinian Accountability Act.
