Senate aide fishes for government affairs gig

A Senate staffer has left the Hill to join the private sector and become a government relations expert at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.

Chol Pak joined the science technology company as a senior manager of federal government relations. Since 2013, he served as a professional staff member on the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations' Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Subcommittee under both Sens. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Roy Blunt (R-Mo.).

Thermo Fisher Scientific claims revenues of $17 billion and more than 50,000 employees in 50 countries. The Waltham, Mass.-based maker of biology lab equipment donated $5,500 to Blunt's PAC so far this cycle. The Missouri Republican is up for re-election in a race that was rated likely Republican by Cook Political. Marc Casper, president and CEO of Thermo Fisher, also praised the subcommittee chair for his support of NIH funding's of the Human Genome Project.

Pak also was a legislative analyst and budget analyst for the National Institutes of Health's Office of the Director for five years and worked briefly as a private attorney. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis and his JD from St. Louis University School of Law.
