Clinton leads in revolving door staffers

Posted by LegiStorm on March 31, 2016

Hillary Clinton was in the Senate for only eight years but still trumps the longer-serving Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the number of staff members who either had been registered lobbyists — or would be.

Former Sen. Clinton (D-N.Y.) had 22 staff members who registered as federal lobbyists since 2000, while Sanders has had 15, according to data compiled by LegiStorm. The tallies include only those people who both worked in the congressional office from 2000 to the present and who lobbied from 2001 to the present, when accurate data is available.

Part of Clinton's lobbyist lead can be traced to the fact she had a larger staff than Sanders because her state is much more populated.

Clinton's former staffers have lobbied for clients as diverse as the National Farmers Union to the Children's Defense Fund and the Telecommunications Industry Association. Sanders' former staffers have lobbied for such organizations as the American Legion and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
