Former roundballer now dishing it out for Waters

Posted by J. Todd Foster on March 30, 2016

A staff member who now assists Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) used to assist college basketball teammates.

Zach Cooper was a 6-1 guard who came off the bench for the Penn State Nittany Lions in two seasons, 2012-13 and 2013-14. He earned a bachelor's degree in communication arts and sciences in 2014.

Cooper recently joined Waters' team as a staff assistant following a six-month internship.  He is working on a master's in public policy from George Mason University and expects to graduate next year.

A 2009 graduate of Urbana High School in Maryland, Cooper led the team in scoring his senior year and the Hawks to a 20-5 record. Cooper was a first-team All-County and All-Gazette selection and an honorable mention All-Met. While Cooper saw limited action with the Nittany Lions, he received the Lou Lamie Award in 2014 for "most inspirational player."
