Ex-Rep. Lee Terry of Nebraska finally gets to lobby

Posted by Sarah Reynolds on April 22, 2016

Former Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.) has filed his first papers as a lobbyist with the firm Kelly, Drye and Warren.

Lee, one of two Republican congressmen to lose a seat in the 2014 election, joined the group in early 2015, but was restricted from lobbying for one year under congressional rules. He is joined by his former chief of staff, Mark Anderson, in lobbying for three clients: Physicians Mutual, InterDigital Inc. and the American Suntanning Association.

Physicians Mutual is an Omaha, Neb.-based insurance company founded in 1902. Its offerings range from health and life insurance to funeral pre-planning services. For $20,000, Lee and Hamilton will focus on financial institutions, investments, securities and such health issues as "Medigap insurance."

The Delaware-based InterDigital "designs and develops advanced technologies that enable and enhance mobile communications and capabilities." Lee and Anderson will focus on patent reform for $80,000.

The Michigan-based American Suntanning Association's vision includes teaching balanced and responsible sun care. The organization has an all-salon owner board and pending legislation in many states. For $30,000, they want Kelley Drye to lobby for the importance of sun exposure to the development of Vitamin D.

Terry lives in Omaha after serving eight terms in Congress, where he was a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and championed energy issues and data privacy.
