Gun lobbyist joins Colorado congressman's staff

Posted by J. Todd Foster on April 27, 2016

A longtime gun-rights lobbyist has joined Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) as district director.

Lucius O'Dell was vice president of political affairs for the National Association for Gun Rights for nine years before joining Buck's office.

Last week, O'Dell's name appeared on a filing to lobby Congress, the Executive Office of the President and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on several Second Amendment-related issues, including background checks, mental health issues and federal gun-free zones. "In each case NAGR opposes gun control and supports removing restrictions on the right to bear arms," the lobbying filing states.

The association reported spending nearly $600,000 in the first quarter for lobbying.

Before joining the National Association for Gun Rights, O'Dell was executive director of the Republican Study Committee of Colorado and field director for Marilyn Musgrave for Congress in Colorado. He has a bachelor's degree in history from Colorado State University. He is a certified firearms instructor and lives with his family Northern Colorado and enjoys shooting, brewing his own beer and studying history.
